Kurzbeschreibung

Advancements in engineering, materials science and biology are exploited in a process where technical and biological components are combined to obtain living tissues/organs, ultimately produced by the patient’s own cells. MMI is following different strategies to combine a technical component, which provides structural stability, with a biological one to obtain living tissue/organs that recapitulate the mechanical and biological functions of the healthy equivalents. In research, the team deals with various manufacturing technologies and materials for medical applications with focus on biohybrid systems. Such biohybrid systems are also employed as 3D physiologically relevant models for in vitro basic research, drug screening and medical device testing.
